Montana Backpack Project

Our services

What we do

Packing backpacks is the heart of it. Around that we build partnerships, train volunteers, raise money and help people understand youth homelessness here at home.

01

Backpack distribution

Our main work. We pack bags by age, size and season and get them to youth through school staff and youth service providers in Bozeman and Belgrade.

Around the backpack

Everything that keeps packs moving

Packing is the heart of it. This is the work around it that gets every bag filled and into the right hands.

02

Community partnerships

Local businesses, schools and churches host drives and packing nights. Partners spread the load so no one group carries it all.

03

Volunteer opportunities

Sort donations, fill packs, write notes, run a drive or make deliveries. We match the job to the time you have.

04

Awareness campaigns

Most people don't know youth in our valley are homeless. We share what it looks like here, without telling anyone's story for them.

05

Fundraising events

A few times a year we gather friends to give together. Funds raised buy what item drives can't cover.

06

Educational resources

Simple guides for teachers, coaches and parents on spotting a young person without stable housing and knowing who to call.

Help us pack the next round

Every service on this page runs on donations and volunteer time. A gift today goes straight into the next set of packs.

Donations received by December 9 go into this winter's packs.

For schools and youth workers

Need packs for a young person?

If you are a counselor, teacher, coach or youth worker in Bozeman or Belgrade and you know a young person who could use a pack, reach out. Tell us an age range and a size. You don't need to share a name.
